Organic Navrangi/ Naurangi dal : Navrangi dal is a specialty pulse of Uttarakhand, also known as tirtiyali dal, rains or naurangi in the local language. It’s name Naurangi suggests that the lentils can be of nine different shades. Different colors and shades of Navrangi dal can be found in different regions.
Rich in Nutrients: The lentil is grown in Rainfed, multi-crop system in hills and is considered highly nutritious. It is said to be rich in Phosphorus and calcium and known for its digestive properties. Grown mainly as a pulse, it is also important as a fodder, a green manure and as a ground cover crop.
Health Benefits: According to a study published in the Journal of Food Science in December 2012, the naurangi dal is an underutilised legume and is nutritionally richer than other beans of the family. It is a good source of fiber and provides considerable amounts of Phosphorus and Calcium. It is considered to cure menstrual-cycle related issues. The pulse also has anti-inflammatory properties. It is used in the form of dal (mixed with other pulses) and stuffed paranthas.
